Mannequin/dress form Series
Artist statement
These paintings depict mannequins and dress forms. I chose to depict mannequins instead of portraits because I am addressing strength of women in the world. By dressing them in beautiful clothing with complimentary colors, they reflect female power and personality through fashion instead of a specific facial or figural identity. My artwork reflects the inspiration I have from my childhood, from exposure to strong female figures in my family. I enjoy exploring the female form and fashion subjects because they symbolize the strong women in my life.
I express the evidence of physical process showing history and paint built up with hues. I enjoy painting both rough and smooth textures and vibrant cool colors. In my series, I have a smooth, intense background to evoke the strength I am portraying. Bold contrasts express the passion and strength of the women in my family. The content of my pieces allows for individual interpretation due to its ambiguity.
